The Nebraska Football quarterback was on the side of his star freshman after the latter made some interesting comments earlier this week to the media.

Adrian Martinez has his teammate’s back. That was the main take away from his comments in regard to Wan’Dale Robinson’s own observations.

Basically, Robinson said that the freshman who are a part of the Nebraska Football program will take charge. He alluded to the fact that some of the upperclassman may not be leading as adequately as they should. I agree with his comments, and to me, I just want someone to lead. I don’t care if the player is a freshman, sophomore, junior, or senior. Whoever is willing to step up and take charge for the team definitely earns the right to be a leader on the team.

In terms of play on the field, Robinson has definitely earned the right to speak up. He has been carrying the offense, and especially as a freshman, he has been impressive. He is a dual-threat player who has provided equally as big a spark in the running game as he has the passing game. He has quite literally carried the team on his back in many instances. Hopefully, he won’t have to do that for the rest of the season, but if that’s what it takes for Nebraska Football to win these next couple of games, then so be it. Personally, I think he is very fun to watch.

It’s interesting that Martinez is backing Robinson. I love it, it’s just something that you don’t see too often. Normally, players keep to themselves when it comes to the media. They generally offer no comment. The fact that the quarterback of the team is coming out and supporting the comments of a freshman is different but great to see. Martinez told the media Tuesday that Robinson has earned the right to speak up.

"“I think part of that is when guys see him on the field, they see him battle and play tough and take big hits and make big catches,” Martinez said Tuesday. “He’s earned that respect, respect from the whole team, especially the older guys on the team, and he’s earned that voice."

I’m excited to see what both do on Saturday. This is a big game for everybody involved. If Nebraska can beat Purdue, that puts them on track to make a bowl game. Another loss would be detrimental for the program. Maybe Robinson’s words will light a fire under the team. Especially defensively, Nebraska needs to do a better job of being ready to play.

I’m excited for Saturday’s game. I love college football in general, so I may have a bit of a bias. Even still, with the implications of this game, there is a lot to play for. Hopefully, everybody brings their a-game and makes our Saturdays that much more enjoyable.
