Nebraska Football will do some international travel in 2021.

Hopefully, many Nebraska Football fans have saved up their frequent flyer miles. On Monday, the football program announced that they would open the 2021 season in Ireland. Facing Illinois, the game will be played on Saturday, August 28.

It’s interesting to think about the future. Even though that is only two seasons away, who knows what the program will look like. They certainly have a lot of work to do.

In terms of what this event means for Nebraska, this will give the program exposure overseas. In what has been a loaded Big Ten conference for a number of years now, Nebraska has always been left out. Now, they will take center stage. This is certainly a big step for the program, and it’s one that will undoubtedly help with the recruiting as they try to rebuild.

It will be interesting to see what this roster looks like by then. There is some good talent waiting in the wings, and things appear to be bright for the future. Right now, I know it does not seem that way. Right now, everyone is going through some growing pains. Nevertheless, I’m confident that Nebraska will be back by the time this game occurs.  Nebraska is the second game in the Aer Lingus College Football Classic. Notre Dame and Army will play in Dublin in 2020.

It will also  be interesting to see what the Illinois football program looks like. After what has been an up-and-down season, I wonder if changes will be imminent to their coaching staff. Both of these programs are going through trying times, and it will be fun to see how they shape up in the coming years.

The fact that Nebraska Football is playing in Ireland is definitely an exciting development. It can only mean good things for the program moving forward, as it gives them a chance to show exactly what they are made of on an international level. I’ve always been a big fan of these types of games. It helps grow the game of college football, and there have been some great matchups in the past. Hopefully, this one does not disappoint.
