Nebraska Basketball lost a player on Sunday.

It has been a rough weekend for Nebraska all around, and that extends to the basketball program. 2020 four-star small forward De’Andre Davis reopened his commitment. He made the announcement on Twitter earlier in the day.

Davis is ranked number 109 overall in the 2020 class. Davis and Donovan Williams were the only Nebraska Basketball recruits that made up the 2020 class. It is safe to say that head coach Fred Hoiberg and his staff will have a lot of work to do to fill that class. As result of the reopened commitment from Davis, Nebraska will have one scholarship available.

This is probably a case where Davis just didn’t see a fit with the program anymore. As it stands right now, I get the sense Nebraska Basketball has an idea of what it’s roster is going to look like. To be fair, it looks very good. However, having Davis as part of the 2020 class would have been a great addition. Measuring in at six-foot-five, he is the perfect size to defend both the paint and perimeter. His length and height will certainly be an asset for whatever team he decides to play for.

The Nebraska basketball coaching staff will certainly have to work to fill the 2020 class. I am sure that they are working behind the scenes on it. With a veteran-laden team, they will certainly need to make sure that this upcoming class is filled with players who can contribute right away. With how quickly the coaching staff molded this program following the departure of Tim Miles, I feel confident that they can recruit a solid bunch of players to fill the 2020 group.

I’m excited to see how this team molds together. There are a ton of veterans and younger players who have talent. In the case of Davis, he would certainly have fit into the latter category. However, there is no doubt that it is going to be a challenge to make sure that everybody touches the basketball. I’ll be interested to see how the touches go around for this basketball program.
