Nebraska Football certainly has something special in Robinson.

Another week, another set of accolades for Nebraska Football freshman sensation  Wan’Dale Robinson. After a big win over Northwestern on Saturday, Robinson was given the honor of Big Ten Freshman of the Week for the second time this season.

Robinson had his fingerprints all over Nebraska’s victory on Saturday.  He caught seven passes for 123 yards, including a 49-yard pass that was his longest of the day. It was good to see Nebraska getting him the ball so many times. He got it done on the ground as well. A 42-yard touchdown run was his longest of the afternoon. In total, he had 186 all-purpose yards.

The way I look at the statistics, this is a good and bad thing. There is no doubt that Nebraska Football relies on Robinson a ton. So far, he has delivered. It is a lot to ask a freshman to carry the offense. The interesting thing about that is, he does not look like one. He looks like a seasoned veteran out there, and he manages to get the job done every single time he touches the ball.

I’ll be interested to see how he performs over the next couple of weeks. The slate of games does not get any easier for Nebraska, and it starts  Saturday night against Minnesota. My only worry about this is that Robinson will fatigue towards the end of the season. That would certainly not be ideal. Even with fatigue being a bit of a question mark, there is no doubt he is extremely fun to watch. Every time he touches the football, it seems like something amazing happens.

His pure speed and athleticism have translated well over to the college game. Sometimes, a high school prospect does not look as productive when he is put on the field at the collegiate level. Often times, it can be a case of a “big fish in a small pond.” It is easier to succeed at the high school level than it is at the collegiate level. So far, Robinson has been fortunate enough to do both.

I am extremely happy for him and thrilled that he was able to get this honor once again. Something tells me this is not going to be the last time he receives this award. I said that last week, and look what happened. Hopefully, he can have a strong performance against Minnesota. The team certainly needs him to succeed this week.
