Nebraska Football has had problems snapping the football.

There is no denying how exciting the Nebraska Football game was on Saturday. It had a little bit of everything. From injuries to star players, to last-second field goals, there was something for everybody. I never like to criticize players, but something really bothered me on Saturday. The inaccuracy when it came to snapping the football really hampered Nebraska in some situations.

Now don’t get me wrong, Cam Jurgens is a great story. A converted tight end, he was announced as the starting center right before the start of the season. I am very proud of him for landing that spot, and his hard work in training camp definitely gave him the right to it. However, his inaccuracy when snapping the football has become a huge problem. What’s even more surprising is that it hasn’t been fixed.

I first noticed it when Nebraska played South Alabama. I gave him the benefit of the doubt as it was the first game of the season, and everyone was a little rusty. I again noticed it in Week Two against Colorado. Again, I was more willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. However, it is now Week Seven and we are still encountering the same problem that we had in Week One. The snaps are too high for the quarterback, and sometimes it stalls a drive.

Take Saturday for instance. Nebraska Football was moving the ball well down the field. I believe it was the fourth quarter when on a third-and-one, the snap came to the quarterback too high. It was a big deal at the time as well, because Nebraska was trying to get the play off quickly. That high snap caused Vedral to have to adjust, and it threw off his timing.

I have noticed it throughout the course of the season with Adrian Martinez as well. The snapping issues have caused Martinez to have to jump up and get the ball in some cases. Not only that, the snaps aren’t exactly quick. The slow timing of the snaps seem to have thrown the quarterbacks off-kilter a little bit.

I’m not exactly sure what to do about this. I figured these issues would be addressed by now. However, it might be time to give Matt Farniok  a look. I would be willing to put him in there. This is now getting to the point where the snapping inaccuracy is becoming an issue. Jurgens has snapped inaccurately too many times for me to give him any further benefit of the doubt. At the very least, putting Farniok in the game probably couldn’t hurt.

At the end of the day, a win is a win for Nebraska. They came out and defeated a tough and gritty Northwestern team. However, the snapping issues might not be able to be overcome as easily against a team like Minnesota, who Nebraska happens to play next week.
