Nebraska Football is set to announce new facilities on Friday.

I have some tremendous news on the Nebraska Football front and it is concerning facilities. According to multiple media reports, the University has called a press conference, slated for 1:30 PM on Friday.

The press conference is expected to announce the University making a major commitment to Nebraska athletics. The commitment in question would be a football facility. This is certainly tremendous news, and it’s something that head coach Scott Frost has called for over the past couple of months. It is reportedly going to be built where the Ed Weir track is, right by Memorial Stadium.

This is a sign that Nebraska Football is trending upward. Yes, it’s easy to say that the program needed a new athletic facility. However, the University probably wouldn’t make this big commitment if it didn’t feel like the football program was making any progress. Now in year two of the Scott Frost era, Nebraska sits at 3-1, with a big game against Ohio State coming up on Saturday.

This is great news, and I can’t wait to see what the press conference entails . I won’t get too excited until I see a blueprint or something of that nature. That way, I can visually picture it in my head. Chances are, it is going to be on-par with the rest of the facilities in the Big Ten. An upgrade to these facilities is certainly something that has been missing for quite some time. Now, it doesn’t look like they will be missing for much longer.

This is exactly the type of thing the program has needed. I wonder who got the ball rolling for these facilities to be announced so soon. Whatever the case may be, I am just happy that we are no longer in the speculation stage in regards to these facilities. Now, we are going to have something tangible that we can at least point to.

Times are changing for Nebraska Football. This announcement on Friday is exemplary of that. Obviously, the finer details remain to be seen, and many things still need to be worked out. However, at least the ball is in motion when it comes to facilities. That is certainly a huge step from where we were just a year ago. It’s clear that the University now has a vision for this program, one that is felt by the entire campus and not just the players and coaches.
