Nebraska Football received a big defensive commitment on Thursday.

In case you haven’t heard by now, Nebraska Football picked up a major commitment on Thursday afternoon. 2020 four-star cornerback Henry Gray committed to the program.

Gray is the 12th overall cornerback and the 32nd overall player from the state of Florida in his class per the 247Sports Composite rankings. He had a laundry list of offers. Most notably, Alabama, Florida, Ohio State, and Penn State all extended offers his way. It’s pretty impressive that Nebraska beat out these schools as the Huskers are certainly not thought of highly on a national level.

Gray visited Nebraska Football on September 14 and from looking at his recruiting history, it is safe to say that Nebraska was an underdog in this recruitment. Nevertheless, this is undoubtedly a win for Scott Frost and his staff. He was recruited by secondary coach Travis Fisher.

Measuring in at exactly 6 feet, Gray is a tremendous tackler. In watching some of his highlight film, I was very impressed. He uses open space to gain the upper hand on an offensive player. His coverage skills lack a little bit, but they should be able to get better with time. For a secondary that is full of upperclassman, this is a timely commitment as well. Nebraska Football needs to restock the position.

I can definitely see him being a starter for the program one day. It should happen very soon, as the secondary will be undergoing a makeover of sorts. I like what I see from him. He seems to play very physically and that’s the type of player Nebraska Football likes. They like players who have versatility and physicality. That is an identity the defense has picked up over the past couple of months. Physicality is important in the Big Ten conference, so adding as many players to the roster with that type of play style is a plus.

Gray’s commitment helped Nebraska football in the 2020 247Sports recruiting rankings. They went from 52nd overall to 38th. Hopefully, they can climb even higher. The 2020 class is looking awesome, with offensive lineman Turner Corcoran serving as the headliner. It will be interesting to see how Nebraska handles the rest of the 2020 class. I truly believe that this recruiting class has a chance to be very successful. There are a lot of blue-collar players in this class, and that’s what Nebraska Football has proven to be all about.
