What’s on the menu for the Husker game this week?

Much like the Cornhuskers last week, I had some technical difficulties so I apologize for missing week one. I’m sure you watched the game and were having flashbacks to that slow-to-make decisions, happy-footed OTHER Martinez watching Adrian Martinez in the first half. Fortunately it didn’t cost Nebraska the game this time.

Like the great Husker captain he is, Adrian Martinez owned up to it after the game and promised he would be better. I’m not worried. We’ve all seen what he can do. i look for him to bounce back this week and look like he did at the end of the season last year.

Things to watch for this weekend on the dark side are quarterback Steven Montez, wide receiver Laviska Shenault, Jr., and running back Alex Fontenot. They did a great job handling Colorado State last week, however they did give up over 5

00 yards to the Rams. But enough about those dirty cheaters. NO, I haven’t forgotten how Collier intentionally twisted our quarterback’s leg in the pile last year. And hopefully that karma train is in FULL swing Saturday.

Keys for Nebraska this game are keeping manageable downs, staying away from 3rd and long, and ball control. We are missing our kicker and field position could “be a thing” since we are playing in the rain most likely and on a grass surface.

How about dem Husker BLACKSHIRTS! It was great to see Eric Lee get his and when Deontai Williams went down, next man up Senior, Eli Sullivan went to work too. It’s been a while since there’s been bushels of Cornhuskers as backups. It’s refreshing. For other players who need to step up against Colorado, check here.

But on to why you’re really here, how to keep the tailgate factor on a winning level! This week the game is at 2:30 CDT on Fox. I love me some afternoon games! Munchies are key for this time slot, not just because it’s Colorado and they love their brownies and gummies, but because it gives you something to do with your hands.

Have plenty of chips and dip, popcorn, twizzlers and such on hand. For after the game I’m tossing out a recipe I used this summer with a twist. It’s called the Reubenator. Find yourself some buffalo burgers from any good butcher shop. Season them up however you like because the BEST part about this burger is the topping. Since the reuben is rumored to have gotten it’s start in Nebraska, I picked it to smother the crap out of the buffalo burger. I mean, Nebraska should come out on top, right!

Get yourself some smoked pastrami or corned beef slices. Heat them on the grill so they have those lovely char marks. Top with a piece of Swiss cheese just until it gets melty. Spread some Thousand Island dressing on the burger and ENJOY!

As for cocktails, there is the Colorado Bulldog which is vodka, kahlua, creme and coke on the rocks. I’ll be dropping down some red beers instead most likely. And since I’m hoping that Nebraska gets its just desserts in a victory, I designed a dessert like jello shot.

Heat 1 cup of water and stir it into raspberry jello. Mix 1/4 cup 99 bananas schapps with 1/2 cup white creme de cocoa and pour into the jello. Pour it into shot cups and chill! It tasted like a raspberry chocolate covered banana. The perfect dessert treat to make you smile almost as much as beating those cheaters to the west.
