Nebraska Football: Rehab progressing nicely for Nick Heinrich
The Nebraska football freshman has experienced success with his rehab.
Lately, it seems like I have been delivering bad news in regards to Nebraska Football. I have some extremely good news for you regarding one of Nebraska Football’s promising players. Nick Heinrich has been progressing nicely in his rehab and that should bode well for his future with the program.
Over the course of the spring, it seemed like he had potential to crack the starting lineup. Once he suffered his injury, that put his starting lineup dreams on the backburner. Even still, the coaching staff thinks he could return at some point this season. That would be great news for a linebacker group that is already stacked. This team has a ton of depth at the position, although some of the depth is very young.

Heinrich did not make the 110-man roster obviously because of the injury. So far, I like what the program has done in terms of not rushing him back and allowing him to recover on what seems like his own terms. Heinrich is a player that can contribute during the entirety of his time here. In the landscape of college football in general, those recruits are hard to find. When you find one like Nebraska Football has in Henrich, it’s better to take it easy with the player than to rush him back and risk further injury.
As inside linebackers coach Barrett Rudd told the media on Wednesday, Heinrich has managed to put on some weight and has done well with his rehab so far. At the very least, he can learn from his teammates and learn from the coaching staff by attending practices. Especially for a freshman, that learning time can be crucial. Obviously, everyone wants to see him on the field, but it sounds like he is trying to make the best out of what is a difficult situation. Also, kudos to the people who have been helping Heinrich with his rehab.
"“They’ve done a great job with his rehab,” inside linebackers coach Barrett Ruud said of the former Omaha Burke standout. “He’s noticeably bigger. I’d bet he’s probably gained 20 pounds, so they’ve done a great job with him.”“Just watching him move around these first couple of days has been really good, I think,” Ruud said. “So, excited for him to just keep progressing.”"
The thought of him adding 20 pounds to his six-foot-four, 220-pound frame is intriguing. That will only help him on the field in the long run. Whatever the staff has been doing with his rehab, they should keep at it. If he can continue to work on getting in shape, he could be an impact player by the time he returns to the field.
Rehabbing is never fun. However in the case of Nick Heinrich, it sounds like things are going well. Hopefully, he will be healthy in no time. Nebraska Football could definitely use his playmaking ability on the field.
