Nebraska Football has some  new faces at wideout.

There was a lot to unpack from Nebraska Football’s first unveiling of their depth chart. However, one thing stood out to me. The amount of new faces at the wide receiver position should make for a very interesting season. Two new faces in particular have certainly worked hard to get where they are currently.

Kanawai Noa is listed as a starting receiver on the depth chart. After transferring from California in May, I wasn’t exactly sure how Noa was going to fit into the equation. Initially, I thought he would be more of a depth piece while in-house players would comprise the starting wide receiving unit at the beginning of the season. I’m happy to say I was wrong about that. Noa has impressed head coach Scott Frost throughout the course of training camp, and his experience will definitely be an asset on a unit that has a ton of untapped potential.

Wan’Dale Robinson, as many of you know by now, was a celebrated running back in high school. It became apparent that Nebraska football was going to have a ton of running back depth and he began trying out the wide receiver position during spring ball. Now, it looks like he has found a home there. The good thing about Robinson is that he has a couple of things that aren’t position-specific: Speed and agility. As soon as he gets the ball in his hands, he can make things happen.

This speaks to the job that the coaching staff has done in terms of recruiting. They managed to get two players within the past year, and now they’re both starting receivers. Nebraska really focused on getting weapons around quarterback Adrian Martinez, and it appears that they have begun to see the efforts pay off. Of course, what these two do in-game will be the ultimate validation of recruiting these two. However, they have to start somewhere.

I am definitely going to be excited to see them play on Saturday. Especially for Robinson, this is a fantastic moment. It’s not too often that a true freshman gets to start his very first collegiate game ever. Now, he will get a chance to show everyone what the hype is all about. For Noa, this is  proof that he made the right choice in transferring to Lincoln. Hopefully, he can use his talents and experience and make a great first impact.

Both of these players are now in situations that they have dreamt about for their entire life. I’m just happy they can take part in the history and tradition of Nebraska Football. Especially with the season-opener being a  home game, there is truly nothing like it.
