Nebraska Football has a new group of captains.

Nebraska Football announced their captains for the 2019 season on Saturday night. With four of them in total,  both sides of the football are well-represented.

Sophomore quarterback Adrian Martinez, Junior offensive tackle Matt Farniok, senior linebacker Mohamed Barry and senior defensive lineman Darion Daniels will be the captains for this year. The announcement came courtesy of the Nebraska Football social media account.

I have to say that all four are totally deserving of this honor. They have all worked hard to get to this point, and they are in a good position to succeed this season due to the work they’ve put in. I am a bit surprised that Daniels is a captain, just because he is the newest captain. In the program. I am not bashing his leadership ability at all, and I think it’s very impressive that he was able to earn a captain nomination and that those involved in the program think so highly of him.

The other three are not surprising at all, as they have been a huge part of this program for years now. They are vital to both sides of the football. Over the last couple of years, they have been extremely vital and a stabilizing presence to a team that has been in rebuild mode. Now, they will be able to showcase what they can do as leaders, and hopefully they will be able to make the most of it. This is a great group for the program to look up to. This team has a nice mix of younger and older players. Together, they should be able to form one cohesive unit.

The 2019 captains are undoubtedly some of the most important players on the team. At the end of the day however, everyone is important in achieving success. It will be up to these four to lead by example and make sure that everybody is doing what they’re supposed to be doing. So far, it does not seem to be a problem. Everybody seems to know what they have to do in order to achieve team success. That is certainly a culture change from last year, but it is a great one. Now, they just need to make sure they show the results on the field.
