The Nebraska Football head coach has an idea for the uniforms.

Earlier this week, the announcement that Nebraska was going to use black alternate uniforms for the upcoming season provide excitement for many. Now, Nebraska Football head coach Scott Frost wants the uniforms to be used on more than one occasion.

Frost has an idea in regards to how they could be further used. For starters, he said himself that there will be a home and away version of these uniforms. I like that idea a lot, as it fully embraces the new uniforms and it allows them to showcase different uniforms for the fan base. Although the Blackshirts are commonly just the defensive side of football, the black uniforms would look sharp. Particularly during a night game, they would be instantly recognizable, and perhaps bring more attention to the program nationally.

Frost’s idea centers around the performance of the defense. Considering that’s where the nickname comes from, that makes a lot of sense. After what was a rough season for the program last year, this defense should go into each game with the mentality that they will be a unit who is feared and respected by opponents. Maybe the black jerseys will add a little swagger to their step. It couldn’t hurt matters. This team certainly seems like they have a lot more bounce in their step from last year.

The jerseys could be used as an incentive in the mind of the coach. It sounds like a great idea, and it’s one that Nebraska Football should definitely try to employ. With these new uniforms, they might as well use him as often as they can. As noted in a report by Steven M. Sipple of the  Lincoln Journal Star, Frost certainly has an idea for how these jerseys will be used.

"“I guess I can spill the beans,” he told reporters following practice. “I think by next year hopefully we have a home and away version of this. Down the road, I’d like to see it be introduced that if the defense has a great game and holds an opponent under so many points that they earn the right to wear Blackshirts the next week.“I think that would be another source of pride for our defense.”"

This is something that definitely will not happen this season, but it could happen down the road. Nebraska Football is undoubtedly building a new culture and these jerseys are part of that. It will be interesting to see if this new culture results in more wins for the program. At the end of the day, that’s all that matters.
