The Nebraska Football running back is certainly focused on the game.

Despite his situation being up in the air with Nebraska Football, running back Maurice Washington is doing whatever he can to remain ready.

Potentially set to be a big part of Nebraska Football’s future, he seems to be staying focused despite his troubles off the field. From a football standpoint, he is in a good position to be the key cog in the Nebraska running attack. it sounds like he is doing a great job on the practice field, and eliminating distractions when he is on the field.

Running backs coach Ryan Held has noticed that Washington has matured as a player from a year ago. This is great to hear, as you certainly need that on the field if you want Washington to be a leader. On a group of running backs that is extremely talented, Washington needs to do things that make him stand out. It sounds like he is well on his way to doing so.

As reported by Michael Bruntz of 247Sports on Friday, Held has been extremely impressed with how Washington has progressed. Like many of the Nebraska players on the roster, Washington seems intent on avoiding a major slump. With Devine Ozigbo gone to the professional ranks, Washington was originally thought to be one of the key players in the Nebraska football rushing attack. Now, the backfield is full. That is both a good and bad thing for Washington in terms of carries and chances for production. Held has liked what he’s seen so far.

"“I think he’s more focused now,” Held said, comparing Washington to a year ago. “He was a true freshman last year, wasn’t here in the summer, he came in and we threw him into the fire. Now he’s had some ups and downs, but has done a really good job of saying ‘OK, I’m going to live for today and focus on what I can do to help our team get better — defense, special teams, whatever.’ That’s all he can control right now. The other stuff is the other stuff.”"

The fact that Washington is taking the team approach to practices is awesome. He just wants to go out and play football and help the team compete at a high level. He definitely has the potential to have a breakout season, it all depends on how the other issues go.

Whatever the case may be, Washington is ready. I like that he is working hard rather than just resting on his laurels. That will certainly work in his favor down the road.
