Nebraska Football: Ronald Thompkins is working his way back
This is great news for Nebraska Football.
It appears that some more depth is coming to the Nebraska Football running back position, and thankfully, it comes from in-house. Freshman running back Ronald Thompkins was added to the Nebraska Football camp roster. The addition occurred on Tuesday.
As some of you may recall, Thompkins has been dealing with some injuries. Now, it appears that he is working his way back from it.

According to a report by the Lincoln Journal Star, Thompkins was on the practice field Tuesday. He was wearing no pads, and he had a green noncontact jersey. Per the rules, Thompkins must go two days with no pads on and another two days in helmet shells before he can take part in the practices with pads.
Even though he is not quite onto the full pads stage yet, this is a great development. Nebraska Football could use additional depth at running back. It’s not that they need it. They certainly have a flurry of young stars that can take over the reins at the position. He would just be yet another asset in the proverbial toolbox for Nebraska Football running backs coach Ryan Held. He performed at a high level during his high school career, and he looks to take it to the next level in Lincoln.
Especially with Maurice Washington’s situation still up in the air, this development could not have come at a better time. Hopefully, everything with Washington goes well. However, should things not go well, they have another talented running back they can add to the group. Whether they run the ball or utilize the running backs as pass-catchers out of the backfield, the Huskers will probably be relying on the position heavily. That would make the most sense, as the program certainly has talent there.
It will be interesting to see what he does during the course of camp. Will injuries hold him back? I could see him being tentative over his first practices in full pads. His initial injury was a torn ACL, so I would definitely not blame him for being tentative. However, he seems like a tremendous competitor from everything I have read about him. That tentativeness should go away in just a matter of practices.
In any event, Nebraska Football is about to add another weapon to their running backs stable. Thompkins is finally healthy. That was one of the biggest question marks about him heading into preseason camp. Now, it appears that he will be ready to go in a few days, which is certainly an encouraging change of events.
