Nebraska Football has an interesting player to watch this camp.
It’s not too often a walk-on player gets to make an impact. Although Luke Reimer has not suited up for a regular season game yet , he is turning heads on the practice field. Reimer just may be able to find his way onto this Nebraska football team.
According to Brian Christopherson of 247Sports, Reimer has been exciting coaches and fans alike. There is just one problem. He is going to have to perform at an extremely high level to get noticed in the linebacker group. With guys like Mohamed Barry, Collin Miller, and Will Honas ahead of him, they have created a Big Three of sorts. Nevertheless, Reimer has probably been used to being on the outside looking in. He is a walk-on after all.

Just how much of a climb has he made this point? Consider his 247Sports profile. He was listed as an athlete, measuring in at six-foot-two, 210 pounds. Hailing from North Star and a Lincoln, Nebraska native, Reimer is the type of blue-collar feel-good story that would fit this team perfectly.
He was offered by South Dakota State, Buffalo, North Dakota, Northern Iowa, and South Dakota. Those aren’t exactly powerhouse programs. For the record, Buffalo was perhaps the most prominent name that I recognized out of the schools. After all, Chicago Bears defensive stud Khalil Mack went there. Reimer is just trying to get noticed on a college football roster, and so far he appears to be doing just that.
Inside linebackers coach Barrett Rudd has been very impressed with what he has seen out of Reimer. If he is impressing the linebackers coach, he must be doing something right.
"“Luke Reimer has probably been as big a surprise as anybody in the camp as far as what he can do and his abilities,” Ruud said. “Big, big motor. Really good athlete. Runs to the ball. Makes a bunch of plays. He’s got a good feel for the game. I always like if guys make mistakes, might as well make a tackle on the mistake. He’s pretty good about asking good questions, detailed his work up. So (I’m) very pleasantly surprised.”"
It will be interesting to see if he can continue to impress coaching staff. What would make for an even better story is if he gets to play in the opener against South Alabama. Football is a “what-have-you-done-four-me-lately?” type of game. So far, it seems like Reimer is doing quite a bit.
This would certainly be a great story if he goes on and helps the Nebraska Football program be successful. Right now, he gives many fans a local rooting interest and just another reason to cheer on Nebraska this fall. I know I will certainly be following him closely. He has already made a ton of progress in just a couple of weeks.
