Nebraska Football has talent, and a lot of youth at the running back position.

There is no doubt that the Nebraska Football running back position has a ton of talent. There is also no denying the fact that it lacks experience. However, talent should outweigh experience in the end, especially when talking about the group the Huskers currently possess.

Wyatt Mazour, Brody Belt, and Jaylin Bradley are the only returners at the position for the program. The rest of the running back position will be comprised of newcomers. You can add Maurice Washington to that list as well, at least for now. Even still, there is no denying that the position is made up of underclassmen who are raw in terms of experience.

There is no denying that there are some impressive running backs coming in. Dedrick Mills, who last played at Georgia Tech, is perfect example of that. He is going to presumably be the leader at the position, and is one of the few with significant game experience. He had a couple solid years for Georgia Tech before his suspension. He will undoubtedly have to carry the load, and he has shown he can do it in the past. This season should be no different.

Even still, running backs coach Ryan Held has confidence in his group. As noted in a report by Parker Gabriel of the Lincoln Journal Star, Wan’Dale Robinson and Miles Jones will also get some work in at running back. As many of you may recall, those were the initial positions for both of them. Having them in at the position would undoubtedly provide a boost to it, even if the duo is relatively young. No matter what the circumstances are, I would figure that running back would be a position of strength for the offense. There is a ton of depth there, and It’ll be interesting to see exactly how each of the running backs gets used.

"“It’s a room that had to be transformed just due to graduation and different things, but I’m really excited about it,” Held said. “I’m more rejuvenated today than I’ve been in a long time. Had a good vacation, but I’m excited to get with the new guys and get them going. We’ve got a lot of work to do, but I know these guys had a really good summer and they’re ready to go and get on that field and in the meetings and build daily, brick by brick, getting us in position to where we can be playmakers in the fall."

For a position that is rebuilding, it has the chance to be pretty strong. It may not be built by the time the opener comes along, but I would suspect that by midseason,  Nebraska Football will be able to hit their stride in the running back department. If the running game can get going, that would be good news especially for Adrian Martinez and Scott Frost. The last thing this program wants to be his one-dimensional. Having a running back group that can be counted on came in and game out would be a great development.

Three things to consider in 2019. dark. Next

The running back position may be a work in progress right now, but the future is bright. They should be able to make some noise in the 2019 season. It may not look exactly how many envisioned it, but I trust held to be able to put the running backs in positions that they can succeed. They figure to be a huge part of the offense moving forward, and even in a rebuild, they should be able to make game days a lot of fun.
