Nebraska Football is making headway with the media.

Nebraska Football is getting more respect, but perhaps it’s still not enough. In the latest coaches poll released on Thursday, Nebraska Football sits just outside of the top 25. Even still, I would certainly look at it as a step in the right direction.

in terms of a numerical ranking, Nebraska was ranked 26th in the poll. They received 152 votes, only nine votes behind Northwestern. The Wildcats were ranked 25th in the poll.

The two highest Big Ten teams in the poll were Ohio State who came in at the fifth spot, and Michigan who came in at the seventh spot. That really comes as no surprise. Both programs are expected to play very well in the upcoming season.

Despite Nebraska Football being ranked just outside the poll, it is worth noting again that they fell just short of the 25th spot. If I had told you a year ago that Nebraska would just miss being ranked in the coaches poll, you would have probably told me I was a little crazy, and I wouldn’t have blamed you. Even if the rankings are not what Nebraska fans want, they should still be proud that Nebraska is close to becoming a team that is gaining credibility. Not only that, they will have plenty of chances to prove themselves this season.

Nebraska has a back-to-back set of games in which they face Ohio State and Northwestern. That will certainly be a tough but crucial stretch if the Cornhuskers want to get in the polls. Performing well against those teams is imperative. Due to the fact that there is still a big gap with Ohio State in particular, if Nebraska performs well against Ryan Day and the Buckeyes, that could help them in the polls. Seeing a ranked Nebraska team would be great.

With the introduction of the College Football Playoff, rankings are even more important. Right now, Alabama and Clemson have a stronghold on the playoff itself and have left their mark on it. it While it would be difficult to foresee any change, this is a Nebraska Football team that is very capable of moving up the rankings.

Nebraska is so close to the top 25. Hopefully they can perform well within the first couple weeks of the season and get there. Just a ranking like this indicates that progress is being made. As a fan, that’s all I can ask for. Nebraska is definitely headed in the right direction.
