The Nebraska Football running back has new developments in his legal issues.
Nebraska Football is a very interesting situation with running back Maurice Washington, and it will be interesting to see how they handle it. According to multiple media reports Washington will have his next court date scheduled on September 3. This was announced late Thursday.
Washington is slated to appear in Santa Clara County Superior Court on September 3. This is following the Nebraska Football game against South Alabama to open the season. Not only that, it falls right before Nebraska Football goes on the road in a much-anticipated game against Colorado. According to a report from 247Sports, Washington’s case will be held at 9 AM in California on that date.

Up until that court date, his legal issues will still be up in the air. That would definitely raise some questions in regards to his eligibility for the first game. It’s going to be interesting to see how Nebraska Football tries to navigate this. Will they set him out? Until they get a full picture of what his legal ramifications will be, I could see them not taking any action until after that September 3 date.
I can also see them not playing him in the opener against South Alabama and waiting until after the court date to make a decision. It’s certainly interesting thing about the different scenarios that they could go through. At the very least, they have running backs who can take Washington’s spot. It’s not like they lack depth there, and they have players that are more than capable of handling the running back duties.
Of course you want to approach the situation lightly, but you also don’t want to make a decision until everything is taken care of. It’s a tricky situation for Nebraska Football, one that they will certainly have to make some tough decisions with. Washington is a huge part of the team, but this set of issues obviously goes way beyond football.
With fall camp beginning August 2, Scott Frost has obviously been asked about Washington. He gave a very measured answer when asked about the situation.
"“I don’t think camp is gonna be an issue,” Frost said. “He’s already been doing some (during) spring ball and working out with our team. So I don’t think any decision would have to be made because of his legal issues being unresolved until the first game.”"
It will be interesting to see what they do. Nebraska certainly can go in a couple different directions, and I just hope they make the right decision, whatever that may be. I am just glad that I am not the one making this choice. I could see reasoning for both sides of the argument of whether he should play or not play. We’ll just have to wait and see until the week of the opener.
