The Nebraska Football coach has as good a shot as any to win Coach of the Year.

Nebraska Football seems to be garnering a lot of attention this preseason. As a result, they have been named to several preseason accolade lists. The coach is not excluded from this, as he was named to an accolade list on Thursday. Scott Frost was named to the Dodd Award Watch List, given to the coach of the year in college football.

Frost was one of 30 coaches named to the list, one that includes six Big Ten coaches as well. In case you’re wondering, Paul Chryst of Wisconsin, Iowa’s Kirk Ferentz, Northwestern’s Pat Fitzgerald, James Franklin of Penn State and Michigan’s Jim Harbaugh are all of the Big Ten nominees.

Winning this award would put Frost elite company. Husker great Tom Osborne was the recipient of the award in 1978. Obviously, Frost has a lot of work to do before he becomes the next Osborne, but he is certainly in great company.

This is just another affirmation that the national media thinks Nebraska Football is going to do big things. There is no reason to believe that Nebraska Football can’t accomplish major goals. They have nothing to lose, and everything to gain. However, I want to see what they can do on the field now. I am getting bored of all the preseason hype, and I want to see it all be put to action. Thankfully, we are just about a little more than a month away from the season opener against South Alabama.

Frost has done a good job of keeping measured expectations. In all the interviews I’ve read, he has been quick to point out that there is still a lot of work to be done. There is no doubt that Nebraska Football is in a much better place than they were a year ago, but they still have a lot of work to do. Now, that work is beginning, and Frost can officially take inventory on the roster that he has. There is a lot of talent and a lot of opportunities for young guys to make impacts. There is nothing like the Big Ten conference play to make you grow up a bit faster.

Congratulations to Coach Frost on the nomination. Hopefully, he will live up to the hype. Let’s hope that’s not the only award he garners by season’s end. A national championship may be a bit too much to expect, but a Big Ten title is certainly within reach.
