Davis should be an asset to the Nebraska Football defense.
Over the past couple of months, you have heard us talk about one of the biggest tandems of the Nebraska Football program: the Davis brothers. They certainly have high expectations heading into the 2019 season and they should definitely be considered as one of the top defensive duos in the conference. Although we have yet to see them in game action, everything is lining up for them to have a great year. In particular, Alex Davis should be able to put together a solid season.
As he heads into his senior season, he has had a whirlwind of a career at Nebraska. He has not put up incredible numbers, with the 2017 season being his best. As a sophomore, he recorded 17 total tackles and 1.5 sacks in nine games played. Last year as a junior, he only played in three contests. In those games, he recorded four assisted tackles and one solo tackle for five tackles in total. We were certainly hoping to see an increase in his numbers from 2017, unfortunately that did not happen.

His best game came at Penn State in 2017. In that contest, he recorded three tackles. Although that’s not an incredible number he did serve as a pillar of consistency. He recorded at least one tackle in five straight games from October 28 through November 24. In the game against Penn State, he also recorded a sack. He certainly made his contributions felt, and now he will look to have that same type of production heading into his senior campaign.
On a defense that is filled with youth, Davis will undoubtedly have to step up. He certainly has the talent to be an effective reliable player. He is probably not going to put up big numbers, but his consistency should make up for that. Heading into what should be a fun year, Davis has worked hard in order to be successful. Just ask his teammate Mohamed Barry, who spoke a little bit about his work ethic at the Big 10 Media Days.
"“Alex Davis, the improvement he made and what he’s going to give to this team in the pass rush … Now he moves like lightning and he’s flipping his hips, just getting through linemen like a knife on butter,” Barry said."
That speed should be a tremendous asset to a defense that looks to improve their pass rush. If Davis can be a threat for the defense, that would be a tremendous development. He doesn’t even need to get sacks per se, he just needs to make offensive lines uncomfortable. He can certainly do that, and I’m excited to see what type of numbers he will be able to put up.
Alex Davis has always been a solid player for the Nebraska Football program. Now, he looks to be able to put all of the things he learned together to have a successful final season. I’d expect him to remain a big part of the defense, as Nebraska looks to stifle the best offenses in the Big Ten.
