Nixon committed to Nebraska Football on Monday.

Nebraska Football was on the receiving end of a commitment from 2020 three-star wide receiver William Nixon. He made the announcement via his Twitter earlier Monday afternoon.

Nixon is the 121st overall player in his class, and the 91st overall receiver per the 247Sports Composite Rankings. However, in a case like this, rankings can be a bit misleading. He is another big get for offensive coordinator Troy Walters, who has been a tremendous asset on the trail.

More from Husker Corner

Currently, Nebraska has nine receivers on the roster. The only senior is Jaron Woodyard while JD Spielman and Mike Williams make up an impressive junior class. Zavier Betts is the only 2020 wide receiver in the class. With this offense being particularly stacked at the position, I don’t see a case where Nebraska Football necessarily needs to go out and get another receiver immediately.

With that being said, the freshman group certainly has a lot of talent. When Spielman and Williams graduate, that freshman group is going to be relied upon to produce. They certainly have a lot of talent, so I think the chances of that group succeeding is highly likely. Nixon will undoubtedly be part of the youth movement. The future looks very bright.

Nixon and Nebraska Football seem to match perfectly. Per a report from Steven M. Sipple of the Lincoln Journal Star, what Nebraska has to offer both in terms of athletics and academics was more than enough of a reason for Nixon to commit. In reading what he had to say about his commitment, I like the fact that Nixon sees Nebraska as a place that has a vision for him.

"“What set Nebraska apart was a few things,” the Midway High School standout told the Journal Star. “This was a very difficult decision because of all the great staffs and coaches I met throughout this process. But I loved the entire Nebraska coaching staff and their vision for me as a student-athlete at Nebraska.“Nebraska also fits what I want to do academically, which is engineering or business.”"

With this commitment, the Nebraska Football recruiting class continues to climb. They are ranked 54th in the country, and 11th overall in the Big 10 Conference. Although those rankings may seem low, they have managed to get a lot of stellar athletes in this class. I can’t wait to see how they all come together. Scott Frost has made it clear he wants impact players, and not just players who simply fill scholarships.

dark. Next. Nixon could help rebuild

Nixon should be a great addition to the Nebraska Football program, and he should allow them to have more flexibility at the wide receiver position in the coming years. As all of you know, building a football program just isn’t about right now, it’s about looking towards the future. Nebraska certainly did that on Monday, and Nixon should be able to fit right in with the offense.
