Nebraska Football is on the hunt for another wide receiver.

Nebraska Football is working hard on the recruiting trail and they seem to be in the running for another wide receiver. Although the depth at the position is solid at the moment, it is never a bad thing to have too much depth. 2020 three-star wide receiver William Nixon may be a Husker sooner rather than later.

Nixon is the 98th overall wide receiver in his class, and the 75th overall player in the state of Texas per the 247Sports Composite Rankings. Although those rankings may seem a bit low, consider the talent in the state alone.

More from Husker Corner

Measuring in at five-foot-11 , 185 pounds, Nixon has been receiving looks from many schools. In addition to Nebraska, Georgia Tech, Purdue, Baylor, and Penn State have all extended offers his way. For Nebraska Football, he is being recruited by offensive coordinator Troy Walters.

Walters has several key commitments on his resume. Wandale Robinson, Zavier Betts, Darien Chase, and DeMariyon Houston are just some of the players he has been involved with in the recruiting process. Nixon would certainly be another impressive player to add to that list.

What could Nixon bring to Nebraska Football in terms of receiving? For one, he is very quick in terms of  his break. As soon as the ball is snapped, he explodes off the line. He runs very solid routes and is able to get a tremendous amount of yards after the catch due to his speed. He is the type of player that Nebraska could throw to and let him go to work. It is always great to have a player with the that type of capability on the offensive side of the football.

Nixon seems to like the environment that Nebraska Football brings. This is something that many recruits have pointed to as a positive for them. It speaks a lot to what Scott Frost has been able to do with this program. Nebraska is now becoming a destination that players want to go to.

"“They were really genuine about me,” Nixon said. “They think I could do a lot for them. I felt like we could really bond. We talked about X’s and O’s and about how they run things. I talked with coach Frost about what my role could be on the team, how big I could be in the future if I keep working. I talked about the X’s and O’s with coach Held and I talked with coach Walters about what Nebraska receivers do, what their culture is like and how big of a family it is there.”"

Nebraska certainly has a lot of receiving talent right now. However, many of the talent is upperclassman. The coaching staff seems to have begun to think about life after the likes of Mike Williams and JD Spielman among others. Nixon would certainly be a nice building block for the future. It’s unfair to say that he will be as good as Williams or Spielman quite yet. However, he certainly has the potential.

Next. Three records that can be broken in 2019. dark

I’m interested to see how Nebraska Football recruits the wide receiver position over the next couple of years. They certainly need to start thinking about depth, and it seems like they are doing that here. Nixon would be a tremendous player for them to have, although there is no doubt they’re going to have some competition for him when it comes to recruiting.
