His mentality should fit well with the Nebraska Basketball program.

Charlie Easley is not a name that pops out to you when you look at Nebraska Basketball’s new-look roster. However, he certainly has a ton of potential. A local kid from Lincoln Pius X High School, he certainly has a lot to prove as a walk-on player.

So far, it seems like he has set out to do that. There is no doubt he is a very good basketball player. The proof is in his statistics. He averaged 23.3 points per game last season for Lincoln Pius X. Now, he will try to make an impact in the collegiate game. That could be a tall task for him, and that’s not a knock on him. It is a tall task for any walk-on. However, he is extremely motivated, and is using the fact that he did not receive any offers coming out of high school, to motivate him.

It will be interesting to see where he fits in on this roster. Like the rest of the roster itself, there are a lot of players that can score and contribute to this team in multiple ways. Easley no doubt has a shooting touch, as he shot 45% from behind the three-point line as a senior. In today’s game of basketball, that is an important statistic. You need to be able to shoot well if you want to have success. Now, he will be looking to make that same sort of impact for the Cornhuskers.

Perhaps his greatest trait is the fact that he seems to have a chip on his shoulder. Having not received many offers out of high school, that could certainly make a player like Easley feel a little motivated to prove all of his doubters wrong. In that regard, he is the type of blue-chip prospect that Nebraska Basketball, and their fans, love.

I personally am excited to see him play. I will have to watch a little bit more film on him to see what type of three-point shooter he is. Is he one that can move well without the basketball? Alternatively, is he the type to shoot from the corner? Whatever the case may be, he certainly should be able to find a spot on this team.

His underdog  mentality will also fit well with the program. As he implied to Steven M Sipple of the Lincoln Journal Star, he will do whatever it takes to be successful. The more this kid speaks, the more I like what he has to say.

"“My main thing is I’m going to try to outwork people,” he said earlier this week shortly before a team workout at the Hendricks Training Complex. “Nothing bad is going to happen if you work your hardest in everything.”"

Again, it remains to be seen what his role will be with the team, and where he will fit into the equation on the roster. Nevertheless, one thing is for certain: Easley will try his best.
