Nebraska Baseball’s in-state  recruiting was a selling point for Garrett Anglim.

Monday, Garrett Anglim committed to the Nebraska Baseball program in what was a big get for the new coaching staff. His commitment may be starting a trend. That trend was one of the reasons for his commitment. With his comments to the media on Tuesday, he revealed a little bit of what Nebraska Baseball is trying to do.

It appears that Nebraska wants to recruit more in-state. This makes sense, as there are tons of good baseball players in the state of Nebraska. The College World Series is here in Nebraska and the exciting event certainly brings home the point that Nebraska is a powerhouse state for baseball. Baseball and Nebraska in the summertime go together like peanut butter and jelly.

Personally, I have always been a big fan of coaches who want to try to recruit in-state. It sets a good precedent for a coaching staff, and especially if a few local kids can get together, it makes the team more fun to watch. Most of the time, they enjoy playing with each other too. It is a win-win situation for everybody. In college athletics, that is not something you can always find. It sounds like Nebraska Baseball is trying to build a culture everyone can be proud of. That is certainly something I can get behind.

It would make sense then that the Nebraska Baseball program wants to tap into the state for more recruits. There are certainly a ton of talented players, and Anglim is just a recent example. Who can forget Nebraska Baseball star and current Kansas City Royal Alex Gordon? He has done nothing but make Nebraska proud during the entirety of his career. It seems like he has been playing baseball forever.

That sense of Nebraska baseball pride is apparently something that Will Bolt and this new coaching staff want to make a staple of. As Anglim told Michael Bruntz of 247Sports, that recruiting vision makes him want to be here even more.

"“It gets me super excited,” Anglim said. “There’s so much talent in Nebraska, and so many kids who are going out of state who shouldn’t be. They should be going to Nebraska or even staying in Omaha. It sucks to hear that, but I love what (the new Nebraska staff) is trying to do.”"

Hopefully, there will be more Nebraska-born recruits headed to Lincoln in the coming years. This is a great culture to set within the program, and it is certainly an instance where the new coaching staff understands the importance of what baseball means to not only the University, but the state. These will be fun teams to watch in the future.
