Nebraska Basketball will begin a fun couple of days for the fans in Lincoln.

With the 2019-20 season already generating a ton of excitement for Nebraska Basketball, they released some news earlier this week that should make fans even more excited.

The team is set to host an event called Opening Night with Husker Hoops. Held at Pinnacle Bank Arena and open to the public, the free event will feature a live scrimmage on a newly renovated court, a musical act which has yet to be announced, fan contests, and  giveaways among other things. The event will take place on Friday, September 27, the day before the Ohio State football game. What a weekend it will be on campus.

More from Husker Corner

This should be an exciting event for the fans, as it will give them a look at what the new-look Nebraska Basketball program is all about. This is undoubtedly a complete program overhaul for the first time in quite a while, and it is great that the basketball program has decided to hold an event to let fans have a sneak peek. Games at The Vault are always fun, but I can imagine that this year is going to be extra special as a new era of Husker hoops takes to the court.

With 11 new scholarship players on the roster, fans may want to purchase a roster sheet while they’re at the event. There is going to be a lot of learning, for the first couple of weeks anyway, as the new-look program gets ready to battle with some of the best programs in the country. I am not really sure what this is going to look like, but I am certainly optimistic for the future.

Doors will open at 6 PM, while the action is set to begin at 7 PM. This event should be a lot of fun, and it will certainly kickoff what is sure to be a tremendous weekend for Nebraska Athletics. It will be nice to finally put names to faces as we have heard a lot about the rebuilding of the program, but in some cases, we may not know who some of these players are. For coach Fred Hoiberg, this is all about establishing a tradition with the fans.

"“We wanted to kick off basketball season with an event that allows our fans to have a good time and get an early preview of our team as we start practice,” Nebraska coach Fred Hoiberg said in a news release. “We hope this event is not only the start of a new tradition for our program, but also the start of festive weekend with the Husker football team hosting Ohio State the following day.”"

This is going to be a ton of fun, and if I had to guess, there may be recruits coming in this weekend as well. What better to showcase Nebraska’s love of athletics then coming in on a weekend where there are two major events happening? Something special is happening at Nebraska, and it seems like more and more people are beginning to realize that.
