This was a great get for Nebraska Baseball.

Nebraska Baseball has landed a big recruit as the new coaching staff looks to get things going. Monday, 2020 prospect Garrett Anglim committed to Nebraska baseball. He is a local kid, hailing from Leviston,  Nebraska. He made the announcement on Twitter earlier in the day.

He currently plays baseball at Papillion-La Vista Senior High School.

According to PerfectGame.org, he received an 8.5 prospect grade from their website. According to the website’s grading system, an “8” designation is “a potential draft pick and/or excellent college prospect” while a “9” grade is a “potential top 10 round pick and/or highest level college prospect.”

As Chris Basnett of the Lincoln Journal Star notes,  Anglim was atop the Class A ranks in hits, triples, runs, and stolen bases as a junior. He also earned honorable mention All-State honors. Surprisingly, Nebraska Baseball was the first program to offer him a scholarship following the reopening of his commitment. He had originally committed to Wichita State, but unfortunately the whole coaching staff got fired, forcing him to rethink his decision.

Anglim seems like a do-it-all type of player. That’s exactly the type of player Nebraska Baseball wants in the program. Especially when they have to fill some pieces left by graduation, he could definitely be an asset to the program.

Furthermore, the fact that he is an in-state player is certainly exciting. There is nothing better than seeing a local kid rise up through the ranks of a major collegiate athletics program. He should be able to find a spot in Lincoln in the coming years. I have a feeling that there will be a lot of roster reshuffling and retooling, maybe not this year, but in the years to come.

You would have to think that Coach Bolt and his staff want to continue to make the program theirs . They are obviously doing that by establishing relationships with recruits, but it probably doesn’t truly feel like your own program until you have an entire team full of  kids that you, as a coaching staff, recruited. If everything goes according to plan, Nebraska Baseball should be able to acquire some major talent over the next couple of years.

This was a great get for the Nebraska Baseball coaching staff and one that should be able to make an impact in the coming years. Nebraska Baseball has a storied tradition, and now Anglim wants to be a part of it.
