For the Nebraska Football quarterback, the recognition is quite the honor.

Another day, another instance where Nebraska Football quarterback Adrian Martinez ranks among the best in college football. USA Today released their rankings earlier this month of the 10 best college quarterbacks for the 2019 season, and Nebraska was well-represented.

There is no denying that there has been a ton of hype surrounding Martinez and what he can bring to the table. I will admit, this site in particular has been very positive in regards to what Martinez can do. However, it is nice to see that the national media continues to take note that Martinez could be in line for a big year. Particularly coming off of a losing season, the national media doesn’t tend to favor losing teams. However, it seems that they, like the fans, recognize that Martinez may be the glue that holds the program together in 2019.

There is no doubt that head coach Scott Frost has done well in developing quarterbacks at the college level. We are beginning to see that with the recruits they have brought in as well. Luke McCaffrey appears to have a decent career trajectory to this point, and the coaching staff, most notably Mario Verduzco, has been busy trying to recruit quarterbacks for the future. It appears that the program itself places a high value on quarterbacks. That is not a knock on them either. They should value quarterbacks highly, as good ones are hard to find.

USA Today does a nice job of praising Martinez, without praising him too much. It will be intriguing to see what he does in his sophomore season. He certainly has the talent, but can he build off what he did last year?  Word on the street is that he has leadership capabilities, but can he put them into action? My personal answers to both those questions would be “yes.” Especially with all of the weapons he has surrounding him, he should be able to thrive in this offensive system.

"It might be too soon to anoint Martinez as one of the nation’s best, but the potential is there for the Nebraska sophomore to make an under-the-radar charge at some end-of-season hardware. He was a revelation amid the Cornhuskers’ debut under Scott Frost, who has helped to develop his fair share of quarterback standouts. Martinez will be his latest star."

Saying that Martinez will be Frost’s latest star is interesting. He is already there. He showed as a freshman that he has the talent to lead this team to do big things. If anything, this will just be another addition to what has been an impressive resume for Frost and his staff to this point. So far, he has done very well in evaluating talent. I can’t wait to see what happens down the road.
