Nebraska Basketball: Fred Hoiberg making effort to recruit in-state
Nebraska Basketball was busy recruiting over the weekend.
Nebraska Basketball continues to recruit hard. Over the weekend, Fred Hoiberg and his staff offered a scholarship to 2022 power forward Jasen Green. Green is an in-state player who plays for Millard North High School in Omaha.
At first glance, his statistics do not jump out to me. In 24 games played, he averaged 7.1 points per contest and 4.8 rebounds per game. What does jump out to me is his size. He measures in at six-foot-six, 205 pounds. As a freshman, he still has a lot of room to grow. Truthfully, 7.1 points per game is a lot for high school.

He was a 31% three-point shooter last year, and was efficient in scoring as well. In 479 minutes of play, he had 170 points according to his MaxPreps profile. He is currently not ranked by 247Sports, and Nebraska is his first offer.
I certainly like his potential. As a six-foot-six sophomore, he already has the body type to play in the collegiate ranks. He has three more seasons to continue polishing his game. It will be interesting to watch his recruitment and see what other schools value him just as highly as Nebraska did. It says something about his style of play that Nebraska basketball thought to extend him an offer. They, at the very least, recognize his potential at the next level. This is a kid that is going to continue to develop and hopefully turn into a productive player.
With Green being an in-state prospect, that is also a pretty big development. Hoiberg has shown he is not afraid to recruit the state of Nebraska, and it is a wise move on his part to do so. There is a ton of basketball talent in the state, and I would only expect that to continue to grow in the coming years. At the very least, Hoiberg is not afraid to see what’s out there in-state.
Additionally, Green would fit in Nebraska Basketball’s goal of getting players with length and size. It has become evident that Nebraska wants to build a team that is big and lengthy. Green certainly fits into that mold. It is becoming very clear what type of player Hoiberg wants.
Kudos to Nebraska Basketball for taking a look at this kid and offering him his first scholarship. He could develop into a productive college basketball player in no time. Hopefully, his best days are ahead of him in Lincoln.
