Nebraska Football continues to recruit the position heavily.

Peter Costelli is a name to keep an eye on and would be a perfect fit for the Nebraska Football program. Measuring in at six-foot-three, 205 pounds, the pro-style quarterback is firmly on the radar of Nebraska Football. With the speed he possesses as well as his talent as a signal-caller, there is no reason why Nebraska should not take a chance on him.

Costelli  is not ranked in the 247Sports Composite Rankings, but he is ranked in the overall 247Sports Rankings. Touted as a three-star recruit with in overall rating of 85, he is the 20th overall pro-style quarterback in his class and the 35th overall player in the 2021 class from the state of California. It is no surprise that his offer list is extensive, with many of the schools calling the West Coast home.

In addition to Nebraska, Arizona, California, Colorado, and Oregon have all extended offers his way. He also has interest from the East Coast as Boston College has also extended him an offer. His most recent offer came from the Duke Blue Devils on June 17. Coach Mario Verduzco has been his primary recruiter.  Currently, Nebraska Football has no commitments in the 2021 class.

What could Costelli bring to Nebraska football? For one, he is perhaps one of the most dangerous quarterbacks in his class. As noted in a report from Parker Gabriel of the Lincoln Journal Star ($), he had a tremendous first two seasons at Rancho Santa Margarita High. He tallied 2,292 passing yards and 20 touchdowns. He was also very careful with the ball, tallying 10 interceptions over the first two seasons.

This past spring, he took his speed to the track. He recorded a time of 10.82 seconds in the 100 meters. What would tire me out and have me out of commission for weeks sounds like just another day for Peter Costelli. With so many schools vying for his talent, it would be easy to get caught up in the recruiting process. Nevertheless, he has nothing but nice things to say about Nebraska per Gabriel.

"“The campus was great and everything was really nice. The facilities and the campus, too,” Costelli said. “(Verduzco) is great. He’s energetic and he really knows what he’s talking about. He’s a really great guy.”"

Nebraska Football has seemed to fall in love with the dual-threat quarterbacks. I can’t say I blame them, as the especially talented quarterbacks will be able to lead and offense both with precision and ease. That combination is hard to find. Costelli would ideally continue the trend of good quarterback play for Nebraska football. His speed would be a tremendous asset. We have all seen what Adrian Martinez can do, and from the sounds of it, Luke McCaffrey has a ton of potential.

It feels kind of strange hyping up a kid who has not even played his senior season of football yet. However, the hype seems warranted. The offers listed above will definitely not be his only ones, and I could see him fitting in really well wherever he goes. Hopefully, he will be able to call Lincoln home. If he were to commit to the Cornhuskers, he would undoubtedly be yet another strong quarterback to add to the tradition. Furthermore, it would extend Verduzco’s reputation as a quarterback whisperer.
