Nebraska Football is one step closer to landing a stud.

Summer is almost here, and for many recruits that means it’s time to make their decision about where they want to go to school. Nebraska Football has been in the mix for many of these recruitments, and that was the story again late Sunday night. 2020 three-star outside linebacker Tyler Berrong announced that Nebraska made his top five schools. He made the announcement via Twitter.

Berrong is the No. 28 outside linebacker in his class and the No. 58 overall player in the state of Florida per the 247Sports Composite Rankings. It is worth noting that in the regular 247Sports rankings, he is a four-star prospect.

In addition to Nebraska, he also has offers from several big-time schools. Pittsburgh, Purdue, Colorado State, North Carolina, and Florida have all extended offers his way. Currently, the 247Sports Crystal Ball favors him going to Florida.

What could he bring to Nebraska? For one, he is physical. He can get to the ball carrier by simply pushing his man out of position. In watching some of his highlight film, it looked as though he never gave up on a play and always seemed to want to be in the middle of it. When he it was able to get free from his man, he showed tremendous speed and agility in wrapping up. He is a very solid tackler,  and makes sure he gets his man on the ground quick and promptly.

He would benefit Nebraska Football most in the running game. At six-foot-two, 220 pounds, he looked like a man among boys at Atlantic High School in Port Orange,  Fla. With how physical he plays and his relentless pursuit of the football, he would endear himself to the Nebraska Football coaching staff immediately.

It is great to hear that Nebraska Football made the cut for Berrong. I do not put too much stock into these lists. However, the fact that Nebraska made the list of the final five teams he is considering is certainly noteworthy. They have as good a chance as anybody to land Berrong and it would be a huge get for the program.

Next. Boe Wilson needs to continue momentum. dark

With Mohamed Barry graduating following the 2019 season, they need someone who can fill the void of physicality and playmaking ability. Berrong can certainly do that, and whichever team lands him would get a linebacker who is not afraid to make and take a hit. Hopefully, we see him in Lincoln on Saturdays.
