The blueprint has been set for Nebraska Baseball.
It seems like the name of the game for this new crop of Nebraska coaches is toughness. It appears that for Nebraska Baseball, they won’t be left out in that regard. With a new baseball coach in the fold in former husker Will Bolt, Nebraska now has someone who knows what it takes to compete at a high level. Furthermore, he understands the passion that goes along with being associated with Nebraska Athletics.
The teams that Bolt played on in his collegiate days were built on toughness and talent. It appears that he wants his baseball program to be the same way. I give him credit for that. Nebraska athletics as a whole are built on blue-collar players, and toughness and grit. Having an athletic program that embodies the state in a way is refreshing. It gives the fans a team to identify with.

Nebraska Baseball already displayed some of that toughness last year. They went from a 24-28 season to achieving conference postseason success and competing in postseason play. Now, the challenge for Bolt will be to take the team to the next level. He is certainly capable of doing so, as I believe he has the makeup and experience to get the job done.
He has already laid out the blueprint for the identity of his teams, and I have to say I like what I’m hearing. It all goes back to having toughness and grit. It should make for some fun seasons ahead, and the future is very bright for the Nebraska Baseball program. They have tremendously talented players in the program, and hopefully that will translate to continued success.
“I think the No. 1 word that comes to mind is toughness. Having that grit, that tenacity the toughness that’s required in this game. You’re going to fail, you’re going to get knocked down, you’re going to get hit in the chin, you’re probably going to get hit in the chin multiple times in the game, but the perseverance to get it done when the stakes are the highest,” Bolt said. “Have that dirtbag, blue collar mentality and play every game like it’s your last. That’s what I want to continue to instill…if you have that and you’re mentally tough, you have an edge on your opponent in about every situation that arises.”
I love what he has to say. The blueprint is there for him to succeed, I’m excited to see where he takes this program. The fact that he wants to continue the blue-collar identity of the program is great. If you can get a bunch of players to work hard and buy into what you’re doing, that sets you up for success.
It will be interesting to see how Bolt does in his first season with Nebraska Baseball. My guess is that he will be extremely successful, and I could see the huskers making another run at the postseason.
