Nebraska Football would benefit from Curtis coming to Lincoln.
As the summer continues to roar on, recruits are beginning to narrow down their college choices. Over the past couple of days, Nebraska Football has been on some of those lists. Monday was no exception as they made the cut for 2020-three-star linebacker Devyn Curtis.
Curtis is the 29th overall player in the state of Tennessee per the 247Sports Composite Rankings. He is getting offers from some big-time schools. In addition to Nebraska, he is also interested in Kentucky, Louisville, Memphis, and Mississippi State. His top group included those two as well as South Carolina, Vanderbilt, and Virginia. He certainly has southern schools covered. It would make sense as he is a native of Brentwood Tenn.
He was offered by Nebraska Football on February 25.
What could he bring to the Cornhuskers? He has very good ball pursuit and does a nice job of identifying where the ball carrier is and making a play if possible. He has great speed as well, which is useful when he has to make a tackle on a running back. He measures in at six-foot-two, 220 pounds, but he plays a lot bigger. Nebraska could use his speed, and he would be able to provide them an athletic linebacker on defense. His quickness and pursuit ability would be great for Nebraska Football.
It’s interesting to see that the athletic linebacker are becoming a type of player that teams want to recruit now. It’s quite a change from past years where the linebacker position was all about physicality. It’s made defenses faster and a lot more difficult to game plan against for an offense.

If they could land Curtis, it would add to the strong collection of linebackers they already have. Players like Jackson Hannah and Nick Heinrich give tremendous hope for the future of the position. They are talented players that should be guaranteed starters for multiple years.
It will be exciting to see where Curtis chooses to go to school. Hopefully, it will be Nebraska. They have a program on the upswing that is well-prepared for the future. In a couple of years, and starting in 2019, they should be able to add their names to the elite programs of the Big Ten. Landing a recruit like Curtis would be a step in the right direction. He has the ability to be a solid piece for a defense and is only going to get better from this point forward.
