The Nebraska Football running back has put himself in another difficult situation.
Nebraska Football running back Maurice Washington is in trouble with the law once again. Tuesday, he was cited for possession of drug paraphernalia according to multiple media reports.
Tuesday, UNLPD were called to the University Suites due to a strong smell of marijuana. Police told the media it was Washington’s room they were called to. Washington was cited with possession or use of drug paraphernalia as he had a pipe with marijuana residue. No marijuana was found in the apartment.
It seems like one thing after another is happening to Washington and he can’t get out of his own way. He also faces charges in California that relate to possession of child pornography. Although these two things are not related, this is another difficult development for Washington.

As of now, Washington is still with the football team, but you have to wonder if that status will change. At what point does he become a distraction to the team? It may be best for him to excuse himself and figure out these situations before committing to play again. Speaking from a football perspective, Nebraska Football has enough depth at the running back position, enough that a Washington absence would not derail the position. Personally, I am interested to see if Tuesday’s development leads to anything further, or if his status with the team will remain status quo.
Either way, you hate to hear Washington’s name in the news for a negative reason again. He was thought to be a big piece of the Nebraska Football running game coming into the season. Now, it looks like he may have to take a backseat as he gets things squared away. Hopefully, everything will work out and that the processes will play themselves out fully.
Things do not look good for Maurice Washington right now. It’s obvious that he has things on his plate that are much bigger than football. To this point, it sounds like the Nebraska Football program has had his back as he tries to work his way through the first situation. The fact of the matter is, he can’t get out of his own way right now. For his sake, hopefully he gets things together and fast. I wonder how many more opportunities he is going to get before he is no longer a part of the program. It would be a shame to see so much talent go to waste.
