Now the real fun begins for Nebraska Baseball.

The college baseball bracket was announced Monday morning, and Nebraska Baseball is in a group with three talented teams.

Oklahoma State is the first seed in the bracket, while UConn comes in at number two. Nebraska is the third seed, while Harvard rounds out the quartet as the fourth seed. Nebraska Baseball will play Connecticut on Friday, in what should be a very exciting game.

Nebraska really benefited from having a bracket like this. They managed to avoid some of the tougher competition, while also putting themselves in a great position to emerge from that bracket victorious. Connecticut comes into the game with a 36-23 record, while Nebraska enters Friday’s game with a 31-22 mark.

This will give the Cornhuskers another chance to be able to show that they are one of the top teams in college baseball. Led by Darin Erstad, this team played well pretty much wherever they went. With a 15-9 record in conference play, a 13-6 mark at home, and a 14-9 record on the road, they got it done in several situations.

Perhaps the biggest reason they are here is because of a six-game winning streak from March 19-26. Beginning with back-to-back wins over Air Force, a doubleheader sweep of Michigan State on March 22 really propelled them the rest of the way. The 11-1 thumping of Iowa on May 24 is also noteworthy. That gave them a bit of momentum heading into the rest of the Big Ten Tournament.

I’m excited to see what they can do. They have shown that when they get hot, they are difficult to stop. Hopefully they saved their best baseball for last, as they look to make some noise in the NCAA Tournament. All things considered, their bracket should help with that. There are certainly no guaranteed wins here, but they managed to avoid some of the tougher tests.

Hopefully, Nebraska Baseball can keep the magic going. Erstad has done a nice job of preparing this team for each and every game, and hopefully that preparation will serve them well as they look to make their first NCAA tournament appearance since 2017. In any event, they have already surpassed their performance last year as that 24-28 record seems so long ago. I cannot wait to watch this team and see how they do. This has been a nice surprise as the lull  of summer continues on. Hopefully, they can keep the magic going.
