Mills is certainly the most experienced in a talented group for Nebraska Football.

As many of you have probably heard by now, Nebraska Football running back Dedrick Mills is set to arrive in Lincoln on Wednesday. This is a huge development for the running game and for the Nebraska Football program as they are finally beginning to have their entire roster with them for the start of camp. For Mills, this is a huge time for him, as not only does he get the chance to play college football again, but he also is in a great position to be the team’s starting running back in 2019.

It may be a bold statement to make at the moment, especially when we have not seen what Rahmir Johnson can do. He is set to arrive in Lincoln sometime soon as well. However, it should not go unnoticed at the fact that we have been hesitant to provide a preview of the Nebraska Football running game until Mills came to town. Now that he is here, he should be put into the starting running back conversation immediately.

More from Husker Corner

For one, he has experience in the collegiate ranks. He was a touchdown machine at Georgia Tech, and his best year came in 2016 when he found the end zone 12 times. More recently, he rushed for 19 touchdowns last season at Garden City Community College. This guy can find paydirt, and that is exactly what Nebraska Football needs moving forward. Especially with some of the recent developments in regards to the rushing attack, the Cornhuskers may need Mills now more than ever.

Secondly, he may be the most sure thing the program has in terms of stability at the position right now. We are not sure what is going to happen with Maurice Washington and we will be able to find out more in June. Devine Ozigbo is obviously gone, and he looks to make his mark with the New Orleans Saints. Besides those two, there is a lot of youth. Mills should certainly be considered for the starting job at the position. At the very least, he has the experience in that type of role.

Moreover, he is undoubtedly the most talented at the position right now. Obviously, we have not seen a whole lot of the other running backs yet, but we should be able to get a clear idea of what their skill sets are by the time training camp begins. Much has been made about the speed of Rahmir Johnson and I can’t wait to see it in action. This backfield should be a lot of fun to watch.

It seems like of the missing piece to the puzzle has finally arrived. All offseason long, Mills has been a huge question mark in regards to whether he would even be eligible to play on the team. The answer finally is a resounding “yes” and I bet he can’t wait to go to work. Finally, Nebraska Football can begin to shape of their outlook for the fall. It’s hard to believe that we are getting closer and closer to the start of what should be something special.
