Two Nebraska Football alums set to recognize NFL dream
Two former Nebraska Football studs signed contracts with NFL teams this weekend.
A couple of former Nebraska Football stars are finding homes in the National Football League. Sunday, offensive lineman Jerald Foster signed with the Washington Redskins. Monday, another former Cornhusker found a home in the NFL. Former Nebraska defensive lineman Freedom Akinmoladun signed with the New York Giants.
Both players signed after going through rookie minicamp tryouts this past weekend. Considering the amount of undrafted free agents and amount of bodies that were probably there, that is an impressive feat. They managed to pass all the tests required for them to make the roster. Now, the next challenge will be surviving training camp and the following cuts.

Akinmoladun was a stud for the Nebraska Football program during his time there. He started all his 37 games at the defensive end position over the span of two seasons. He was a ballhawk in every sense of the word, always seeming to be where the football was. As a result, he concluded his career in Lincoln with 106 tackles and 12 sacks.
Foster should be a great fit for the Washington Redskins simply due to his durability. He started in 24 games at left guard in 2017 and 2018. In today’s National Football League where passing is king, offensive lineman are always useful. Should he receive significant playing time, he has the chance to block for Dwayne Haskins. The Redskins improved their passing game considerably via the draft as Terry McLaurin is certainly a receiver to watch as well. The Ohio State duo should be able to put up great numbers in the coming years.
Akinmoladun is athletic and versatile. That skillset will definitely fit in today’s National Football League. He can force teams to become one-dimensional. With the way he can move by offensive lineman, he neutralized the best running backs in the conference while in Lincoln and was a major weapon for Nebraska Football. Although the game is trending towards linebackers being more athletic and versatile, it is still nice to have ones that can stop the run as well.
Both Nebraska Football alums should be able to find success. They had tremendous amounts of it while at Nebraska, and I expect them to carry that to the big show. Both have abilities and skills that are very relevant to today’s professional football game. I can’t wait to track their progress as they (hopefully) survive the rigors of training camp, especially once the season begins.
