In Wright, Nebraska Football has themselves a talented player.

We have set for a while that Nebraska Football’s secondary is going to be one of the stronger positions this season. They have shown it during spring ball, and now four other names will be added to the mix very soon. With players set to report to campus,  Javin Wright, Quinton Newsome, Myles Farmer and Noa Pola-Gates are all names to keep an eye on. Perhaps one that I would pay special attention to is Wright.

Wright has Nebraska Football in his blood. His father Toby played for the Blackshirts in the 1992 and 1993 seasons. He ended up having a six-year career in the National Football League. That is certainly an impressive accomplishment. His son hopes to do the same. As a recruit, the younger Wright was three-star material. He was the 16th overall player in the state of Arizona per the 247Sports Composite Rankings. He has a lot of potential.

As his profile on 247Sports notes, one of the things he can do is reroute a receiver. That will be huge for Nebraska Football. With so many offenses becoming pass-heavy, if he can throw the timing off between the quarterback and receiver, that automatically puts Nebraska’s defense in a better position to succeed. His 4.59 40-yard dash time is also of note. Given the fact that he is 6-foot-3, 190 pounds, that is tremendous speed of for a person of his stature.

I see him as becoming a ball-hawking defensive back. His size allows him to do that, and his speed allows him to stay close to the receiver. He obviously has a lot to learn and the high school game is a lot different than the college game. However, it seems to me that he has a tremendous skillset that could translate well to big-time college football. I certainly can’t wait to see what he can do in the coming years.

With how much of veteran leadership there is in the secondary, Wright is going to have to wait for playing time. He probably won’t get too much playing time this fall. Come the fall of 2020 however, it could be a very different story. He is the perfect mold of physical and athletic to be able to help Nebraska Football for a number of years. Especially in the Big Ten Conference, having a player of his ability could be huge for the team.

Keep an eye on Wright. He may not be making a bunch of headlines now, but he should be able to make some noise this summer as Nebraska Football begins the 2019 season.
