This is another big get for Nebraska Basketball.

Nebraska Basketball picked up another commitment on Saturday, and what has been an impressive couple of days for them as they continue to make improvements to roster. This time it is French forward Yvan Ouedraogo who is set to commit to the program when he announces his collegiate decision on Sunday per multiple media reports. At just 17 years of age, he still has a little bit of time before he arrives on campus.

More from Husker Corner

This kid has definite skill. He participated in the FIBA U16 European Championships and had himself quite a time as he played very well. He averaged 12.7 points and 9.7 rebounds per contest. That came over the course of 24 minutes per game. He saved his best play for last as he showed with a  a 23-point, 15-rebound outing against Serbia in the quarterfinals. That sounds like someone who could play for Nebraska immediately.

Something of note is the fact that he skipped a grade in school, which is why he is perhaps young for where he is in the collegiate basketball cycle.

He visited Nebraska April 28-30 and he must have really liked his time there. He is certainly a player that brings a lot of unknown, but it’s undoubtedly positive unknown. This is a guy that may not make headlines, but he is a player that should be very much a factor during the course of a game.

The fact that he played in the European championships could result in his game being a bit more polished than say an incoming recruit who has never played a high level of basketball before. Having watched some of the European Championships myself over the years, I can confidently say that is a high level of basketball.

You have heard me mention roster turnover a lot. Usually roster turnover can be a bad thing, but for Nebraska Basketball in this case, it is a very good thing. Yes, a lot of players are leaving. That fact is undeniable. However, players are coming into the program at a rapid rate. Now, time will tell if they can all mesh together and play well. However, this looks very good at the outset.

Nebraska Basketball is continuing to build their team. That much is clear. I can’t wait to see what moves they make as they continue to put the program in a position to win right now. I give a ton of credit to Coach Hoiberg and his staff for trying to put this team in the best possible position to win basketball games.
