The former Nebraska Basketball star is grabbing the attention of NBA teams.

It appears that a Nebraska Basketball alumni showcased his talents for the NBA. According to a report from Michael Bruntz of 247Sports, Junior forward Isaiah Roby worked out for the Minnesota Timberwolves on Tuesday morning. Roby will go through individual workouts for several teams before participating in the NBA Draft Combine, which is scheduled to happen on May 15.

It has been a while since a Nebraska Basketball player was drafted into the NBA. Venson Hamilton was the last player to do so. Coach Hoiberg has been with Roby every step of the way. As the report notes, the coach has been helping Roby prepare for the workouts and has heaped praise upon him. Right now, he is not ranked too highly on draft boards. However, that could change with a solid Combine.

Hoiberg played for Minnesota and was an executive for the organization, so he certainly has plenty of familiarity with the Timberwolves. It’s great to hear that the coach and Roby have been close. It speaks a lot to the character of the coach, especially considering he is working with a player who might not even be on his roster come the fall. Of course, there is always the option Roby could return to school. He still has not closed the door on that possibility.

"“I talk to Isaiah a lot and we’ve done several individual workouts together,” Hoiberg said. “We don’t have a lot of guys right now working out. We have a couple of guys who are hurt, so I’ve had some really good conversations with Isaiah about the process that he’s about to go through. Being where I was in the NBA at all different levels, as a player, as an executive and as a coach, first of all, I know all the people he’s going to be seeing over the next five, six weeks as he determines what happens with his future.”"

I can’t see him forgoing the opportunity to go play professional basketball. He has to strike while the proverbial iron is hot, and right now his stock is perhaps as high as it’s ever been. I am happy with whatever decision he makes. I would love for him to return to the Nebraska Basketball program. Particularly late in the season last year, he performed well when it mattered the most. However, I would also love to see him excel in the NBA, so his decision is a win-win for me either way.

Between the opportunity that James Palmer Jr. has, and Roby’s work out, there has been some good to come out of this past season for Nebraska Basketball. Between the work that Coach Hoiberg has done in terms of recruiting and the players already on the roster, things are looking up all-around for Nebraska Basketball. Either way, the program is destined to succeed.
