Nebraska Basketball: PG Cam Mack a major get for program
Nebraska Basketball landed a huge commitment late Saturday.
Nebraska Basketball continues to make its mark on the recruiting trail. Saturday, Salt Lake City Community College point guard Cameron Mack committed to the program. This is undoubtedly a big get for head coach Fred Hoiberg and his staff.
Mack is a scoring machine. Measuring in at six-foot-three, 185 pounds, he averaged 19.1 points per contest to go along with 7.4 assists and 5.6 rebounds per contest. Playing as a redshirt freshman last year, he shot 45.6% from the field and 33.7% from the three-point line. If there is one huge take away here it is that he is an efficient scorer who can put the ball in the basket. That will certainly help the Nebraska Basketball program moving forward.

Mack is the third overall junior-college point guard per the 247Sports Composite Rankings. Perhaps the most important thing about this pickup is that he will be eligible to play right away. He has three years of eligibility remaining. Assistant coach Matt Abdelmassih recruited Mack while he was at St. John’s. That undoubtedly played a role in Mack coming to Nebraska.
This is another big get for the Nebraska Basketball program. I am very impressed with what the new coaching staff has been able to do in terms of recruiting. In just a couple short weeks, Nebraska Basketball has managed to add some depth to the team via transfers. Hoiberg has done a great job of putting together a group of players that know how to score and have veteran experience. I give him a ton of credit. Initially, I thought that recruiting might be tough because of the fact that Nebraska made such a major move in terms of coaches. It appears to be the opposite.
Initially, I thought the cupboard may be barren for Hoiberg come the fall. I wasn’t too sure what the depth on the roster would look like. Right now, it looks very good. There are certainly more spots to fill on the roster and more areas to address. However, Nebraska Basketball has put themselves in a great spot. They have gotten players that know how to score, have veteran experience, and have been in key situations in their basketball careers. For a rebuilding team, that is the perfect recipe for early success.
Mack will certainly be a tremendous boost to the team. He adds scoring and efficiency to the roster. In today’s day and age of basketball, you need at least a few players that can put the ball in the bucket with ease. Mack can certainly do that. This was a huge get for the Cornhuskers, and I can’t wait to see if they add any more players before the season begins.
