Nebraska Football: Stanley Morgan Jr. fits well with Bengals
The former Nebraska Football star is off to Cincinnati.
Nebraska Football may not have had any players drafted during the 2019 NFL Draft, but that does not mean they won’t be able to find a home in the professional ranks. Just ask former Nebraska Football wide receiver Stanley Morgan Jr. Saturday, it was announced that he signed a free agent deal with the Cincinnati Bengals.
As many of you know, Morgan was a record-setting receiver for the Nebraska Football program. He truly was an explosive playmaker and was a top target of Nebraska’s offense. He left Lincoln as the program’s all-time leader in receiving yards with 2,176. He had a great senior campaign as he caught 70 passes for 1,004 yards and seven touchdowns. Need evidence of his playmaking ability? Just look at his yards per reception. He tallied 14.3 yards per catch.

Now I may be showing a little bias here, but I think this is a very underrated pickup by Cincinnati. He is someone that can provide a great boost to their offense. Cincinnati already has AJ Green and now they will add Stanley Morgan Jr. The Bengals made it a point to retool their offense this draft. Adding tight end Drew Sample among others, they are beginning to look towards the future on that side of the football.
With a quarterback like Andy Dalton throwing to him, with the idea that Dalton can throw the deep ball very well, Morgan should be able to thrive in Cincinnati. He will have to work his way up, but I have a feeling he will be starting sooner rather than later. This is a player that is proven and has tremendous athleticism. Both of those traits are what the Bengals need in their offense. They tried to add a playmaking receiver in John Ross with the ninth overall pick in the 2017 draft. However, things just did not pan out.
I am extremely happy for Morgan. I was very sad that no Cornhuskers were picked in the draft. Nebraska Football certainly has some talent, it just needs to be discovered. It seems like Cincinnati wants to feature Morgan as a main part of the offense. The only question is when it will happen. I could see him getting some snaps in the fall, particularly if he has a good training camp.
I’m certainly excited to see what he can do in the professional ranks. Congratulations Stanley, you have certainly earned this opportunity. Nebraska football and all Cornhusker fans will be watching closely.
