Another Nebraska Football alum is headed to the pros.

Devine Ozigbo is headed to the National Football League. The former Nebraska Football star announced the move via Twitter in what is surely an exciting day for him. The New Orleans Saints are the lucky parties for his talents.

Ozigbo had a tremendous year for Nebraska Football in 2018. He carried the ball 155 times for 1,082 yards and 12 touchdowns. Averaging exactly seven yards per carry, he managed to put Nebraska Football in some great situations on second down. He also proved to be a minor weapon in the passing game out of the backfield. He caught 23 passes for 203 yards, averaging 8.8 yards per reception. His dual-threat play style is certainly applicable in the National Football League.

He will join a New Orleans Saints backfield that includes Alvin Kamara and Latavius Murray. Initially, it will probably be hard to find playing time. However, the New Orleans Saints are great at utilizing their running backs so maybe Ozigbo will be able to find a particular niche within the team. That would be the most ideal, and he certainly has a great shot of at least going to the playoffs in his first year. That would be quite something if he could get a championship ring in Year One.

He certainly fits the New Orleans Saints style of play very well. He is a hard, explosive runner much like Kamara.  He makes every yard count, and he runs hard. He should be able to provide an impact for New Orleans when he gets playing time. They have a solid offensive line, and Drew Brees is also under center. Having a veteran that knows opposing defenses and how to read a defense so well should be comforting to a rookie running back. Sean Payton is a veteran coach with playoff experience. For a player who is going to learn the ropes of the National Football League, this is a perfect organizational fit that should give him the necessary tools to succeed.

This is a very successful day for Nebraska Football alumni. Although none were drafted, several have found homes. As a fan of the program, that is all I can ask for and I’m sure Nebraska Football fans will be buying their jerseys in no time.  I know I will be picking up a jersey or two. After all, it only seems right. One thing is for certain, they will be fun to follow in the professional ranks.
