Nebraska Football is cutting ties with the linebacker.

As the school year comes to a close, we are beginning to see rosters thin out. That is certainly the case for Nebraska Football as they received word that linebacker Breon Dixon will not be with the team come next fall. This was first reported by Sean Callahan of HuskerOnline.com.

Dixon has had an up-and-down college football career of sorts. He came to Lincoln in January 2018 and played in four contests in the fall. He would record one tackle on the season.

Prior to this, he was a four star recruit who came to Ole Miss. He made a bold statement following his decision to transfer from their in 2017, saying he was misled by the program during his recruitment. That certainly made for a well-publicized exit from the Rebels. Dixon was certainly hoping to start fresh with the Nebraska Football program. However, that aspiration never came fruition.

Truthfully, this is just a matter of cutting loose ends for Nebraska Football. The linebacker position should be set for the upcoming season, provided no injuries or other things occur. Prior to the incoming recruiting class, one could say there was a need at linebacker. Scott Frost filled that need and that made Dixon expendable. He certainly has potential to make an impact for a program. After all, he was a four-star recruit for a reason. He just has to find somewhere that works for him, and up to this point in his college football career, that has not been an easy task.

This is the time of year where the training camp roster begins to take shape. We have already seen one transfer at punter of all positions, and now we are seeing another player wishing to continue his college football career elsewhere. This will give the Nebraska Football coaching staff a better idea of what they are working with come the fall. That can only help them prepare for the season, as they can come into camp knowing exactly the type of personnel they have and how they can utilize it. Some of this goes back to the fact that in the Year Two, Scott Frost will have a better idea of what he has to work with.

Obviously, you never like to see a player transfer, but this will work out best for both parties. Hopefully, Dixon can land somewhere and make an impact.

College football is temporary. Especially for some of those who will never make it to the National Football League, this is their last chance at football forever. Dixon obviously thinks he can be a benefit somewhere else, and if he can transfer to a place he can succeed in, all the power to him. I certainly wish him the best.
