Nebraska Football: Hopes for the quarterbacks in Red and White Game
Luke McCaffrey: All about the “carry over”
Saturday will be a test for new Nebraska Football quarterback Luke McCaffrey. I’m not expecting a ton out of him in this game. Rather, I am just seeing if he can develop and continue to polish the skills he has learned so far over the course of spring ball. Word on the street is that he is a quick study and a quick learner. That is certainly good to hear as he should figure to be in the starting quarterback conversation once Martinez leaves.
For Saturday, I want to see if he can carry over what he learned during spring ball into the game. It’s tricky for me to predict exactly what he will do as the coaches may either have him be, essentially, the “handoff guy” that allows the running backs to get the bulk of the work, or they could have him throw the ball a bit. My guess is that it will be a mix of the two. We will probably see some throws from McCaffrey on Saturday, in which case I would be very intrigued to see what he does.
McCaffrey could use this time to simply just take everything in. This is his first experience with a scrimmage type of event at the collegiate level. He will have to make the most of it. This is someone that they view as a successor to Martinez and for good reason. He is talented, he can make plays and he is able to be a playmaker. Something tells me we may see one of those traits out of him come Saturday.
