Andrew Bunch is keeping his focus for Nebraska Football.
There were many who thought Nebraska Football quarterback Andrew Bunch would not even be in Lincoln for the spring game. After all, he was thinking about transferring in December, knowing that there were several other quarterbacks waiting in the wings. Let’s face it, he wasn’t going to start over Adrian Martinez either. The combination of those factors could have definitely left him no other option. Instead, he decided to stay.

For that, I give him credit. Especially with how crowded the quarterback room is right now, the chances of him getting an abundance of playing time next season is very slim. Unless Martinez gets hurt, Bunch is not going to start a game. Also, he has guys like Noah Vedral and Luke McCaffrey breathing down his neck. That can’t be too easy on him either. Nevertheless, he should still definitely be considered the second quarterback on the depth chart. If anything, he seems to be taking it all in stride.
In a report written by Brian Christopherson of 247Sports, Bunch seems to have a positive outlook on his situation as a quarterback on the roster.
"“I’m going to prepare like I’m the starter every single week,” he said. “I guess that’s the way I compete. I just do everything as if I’m the starter.” But he also views all the QBs as one, in a way. “We’re a quarterback room. It’s not one quarterback we think of as the guy. We all want each other to do well. I want Adrian to do well. I want Noah, and Matt (Masker) and Luke to do well, but at the end of the day, we are all competitors, so we’re going to compete against each other. But we want the best man to be playing and the guy that’s going to give us the best chance.”"
I admire him for preparing this way. He could very easily just have thrown in the towel and said “You know what? I am not going to be the starter, why bother?” Instead, he is going to continue to go to work every day and handle his business professionally. As of right now, he still has a lot to play for, and from his demeanor, it sounds like he always will have a lot to play for. Just because there are many quarterbacks in the room doesn’t mean he is at a disadvantage necessarily. Whoever plays the best will win the job for backup quarterback.
It will be interesting to see what he does on Saturday during the spring game. There, he will have a chance to work on what he has been focusing on during the spring and participate in a game-like environment. Although no positions are probably going to be won on Saturday, if he can put together a good showing, he will set himself up nicely for preseason camp. Overall, I hope this works out for him because he risked the opportunity of being able to play somewhere else for a chance to play for the Nebraska Football program. It sounds to me like he thinks highly of the program, and something should be said for that.
