Nebraska Basketball is losing yet another player.

The hits just kept coming for Nebraska Basketball on Friday as guard Thomas Allen announced he would transfer from the program. Doing so via Twitter, he is off to North Carolina State to join a deep and talented Wolfpack squad.

Allen had a decent season for Nebraska Basketball. He averaged 8.7 points, two assists, and 1.3 steals per game. He probably would have had better numbers, but he injured an ankle against Michigan on February 28 and did not play for the rest of the season. Allen had his best game of the season against Purdue on February 9. In 26 minutes, he went six-of-nine from the field and five-of-six from the three-point line. He also proved to make an impact on the defensive end, recording a steal.

One of Allen’s other notable games came on December 8 against Creighton. In 35 minutes of play, he went seven-of 11 from the field, and was perfect on both shots from the three-point line. He tallied five rebounds and four assists on the defensive end, once again showing he could be multifaceted. He would finish with 18 points on the night and was a big reason why Nebraska Basketball was able to snap their losing streak over the Jays.

I knew that he would transfer earlier this week, I just didn’t know where. This makes sense for him as he is a native of Raleigh, North Carolina. Now, at the very least he gets to come home to his family. This hurts Nebraska Basketball as he was a tremendous depth piece for them off the bench when they needed it. Particularly in the late stretches of the season, he was certainly a nice piece to have around.

Nebraska Basketball is struggling with depth as it is, and Thomas’ transfer does not help matters. After losing Isaiah Roby to the draft earlier Friday, losing Allen is an additional blow. The new coaches will have to be working overtime on the recruiting trail to make up for these losses.

Next. Three burning questions with hiring of Fred Hoiberg. dark

This may be a bigger rebuild for head coach Fred Hoiberg than originally anticipated. However  with his experience, something tells me he is ready for it. With all of the departures to graduation, the program was due for a rebuilding phase. Hoiberg can definitely weather the storm as he has the experience at both levels of basketball to attest to that. It should be interesting to see what this team looks like come the fall. It will look vastly different than last year.
