This is a huge get for the Nebraska Football program.

It’s not too often that good news comes on a Wednesday, but for Nebraska Football, that was the case. They landed a commitment from four-star wide receiver Zavier Betts. The 2020 wideout is ranked as the 91st overall player in his class, the No. 20 overall wide receiver and the top player in the state of Nebraska per the 247Sports Composite Rankings. He played his high school football at Bellevue West High School.

He had several viable options to choose from. In addition to Nebraska, Iowa, Iowa State, Minnesota, and South Dakota State all extended offers his way. At the end of the day, he felt Nebraska was the right place for him.

What does this mean for Nebraska Football moving forward? Well for one, it beefs up the 2020 recruiting class. Up to this point, the class only had one commitment in dual-threat quarterback Logan Smothers. Now, Smothers has a target to throw to in Betts. The two could be a dangerous duo in a couple years, and they should help alleviate any sadness caused by the probable departure of Adrian Martinez to the pro ranks.

Betts had a tremendous high school career. In his junior campaign of 2018, he got 48 passes for 856 yards and 12 touchdowns. Averaging 17.8 yards per reception, a 61-yard snag was his longest of the season. Those are certainly great numbers, and that was not even his best year on the gridiron. That came during his sophomore year of 2017. In that timeframe, he caught 57 passes for 1035 yards and 15 touchdowns. He averaged 94.1 yards per contest and an astounding 23.1 yards per catch.

For one, he possesses a unique combination of shifting this and speed. Once he catches the football, it is off to the races. Measuring in at six-foot-two, 189 pounds, he has the body type to be an effective wide receiver. He certainly is, and he is difficult for defenders to bring down. He will give Nebraska Football yet another playmaking receiver to work with. Currently, many of the receivers on the roster right now are rather young. However, once they fully develop as players, they should be able to make an impact for the program. Betts certainly fits into that category as well. He will be another playmaker in the arsenal of the Nebraska offense.

This was a huge pickup for Scott Frost and the Nebraska Football program. Just when you think the program is done getting impact players, Frost and his staff surprise us all yet again. He is setting things up well for the future, and is giving us plenty of reasons to be excited.
