Nebraska Basketball: Isaiah Roby has a tough choice to make
The Nebraska Basketball senior is currently facing a difficult decision.
As Nebraska Basketball announced their new head coach on Tuesday, that may have left some players futures up in the air. Unlike many players that do not want to play for a new coach, senior forward Isaiah Roby has a very intriguing option to fall back on: playing in the NBA.

Roby was a big part of Nebraska basketball’s offense in the 2018-19 season. Especially when Issac Copeland went down due to injury, Roby stepped up and played well. He played exceptional during the month of March and he was a major reason why the Nebraska Basketball team advanced farther than expected in postseason play.
Roby averaged 11.8 points and 6.9 rebounds during the 2018-19 season. Being one of the more experienced players on this team heading into the 2019-20 campaign the upcoming senior could be leaned on heavily to provide scoring and experience. Roby himself has admitted that he could perform well in Hoiberg’s system. However, he is leaving all options on the table.
"“It is a pro both ways (going or staying). Obviously coming back to the team, there’s a lot of stuff up in the air on who’s going to be on the team, and that’s a problem every offseason for every team because so many people transfer nowadays,” Roby said. “But yeah, I think having a coach like Coach Hoiberg to come back to would definitely be a pro.”"
I definitely understand where Roby is coming from if he wants to go pro. After all, who wouldn’t want to play in the NBA against some of the best players in the world? As far as his future at Nebraska is concerned, the Nebraska Basketball program would definitely be able to use his talents on the team. I would even go as far to say that there may be an opportunity for him to be captain of the team. If he were to take on that role, it would be important for him to build a strong relationship with Coach Hoiberg. I would imagine that they would be relying on each other heavily next season as the coach needs someone with overall basketball experience to execute his game plan and the fact that Roby knows the ins and outs of the team perhaps better than anyone in the program right now.
I am eagerly anticipating the day that Roby makes his decision. My guess is that he will make it sooner rather than later as Hoiberg will definitely need to recruit another forward if Roby leaves. He could be a very productive player as he noted in the system the coach presents. However, is it worth risking injury and a shot at glory to come back to a new system? These are just some of the questions that Roby will have to think about as he determines his future with the Nebraska Basketball program.
