The Nebraska Football center is turning heads in spring ball.

You might want to remember the name Cameron Jurgens. Although he may sound unfamiliar at the moment, he is performing well enough in spring ball that he may be a crucial piece of the Nebraska Football program down the road. Once a tight end, Jurgens has made the move to the center position, and he appears to be playing it well. Measuring in at six-foot-three, 270 pounds, he does not lack size, which is something he will definitely need against the strong defensive lines of Big Ten opponents.

As he recovers from a foot injury he suffered in the offseason, he continues to try and make the most of his opportunities at spring ball. He has certainly caught the eyes of the coaches as they look for some healthy competition at the center position. Although the center position may not seem that important, it certainly is. Center is an integral part of the offensive line as they are sort of the glue that holds everything together. If the Huskers can get solid play out of Jurgens this season, that could bode well for the future of the position. Very rarely can you find a multi-year starter at any position. Jurgens can break that mold.

For now, his athleticism and toughness have been on full display. That has excited the Nebraska Football coaches quite a bit. In the Big Ten Conference, you need to be able to be aggressive. As the competition for the center position continues, it will be interesting to see how Jurgens develops. From a former tight end to a potential integral piece of the offensive line, that would be quite the transformation. So far, everything appears to be going well. His athleticism in particular has made him stand out per a report from the Lincoln Journal Star($)

"“That’s what we want our centers to be, athletic guys that can snap, pull, get to the edge, but they got to be tough enough, sturdy enough to block a nose (guard),” Offensive coordinator Troy Walters said. “Most noses in this league — Wisconsin and Iowa — they’re going to be over 300 pounds, so you’ve got be tough, strong, but you’ve got to be agile and athletic to get to the perimeter and he fits that bill.”"

It will be interesting to see how he progresses throughout the rest of spring ball and if he can carry that performance over into preseason camp come August. Who knows, he may be able to see the field quite a bit next year. Of course, his positional competitors will certainly have something to say about that. However, it cannot be denied that he has heart and determination. In other words, he has the traits of a Nebraska Football player.
