Nebraska Football may have a deeper tight end position than originally thought.

All throughout the course of spring practices you have heard me talk about how much depth Nebraska Football has on the offensive side of the football. While depth is certainly prevalent within the offensive unit, there is one position in particular that could use some more bodies. Tight end is a minor position of concern heading into the 2019 campaign. Jack Stoll should be in line for a big year, but they may need more production from that spot in order to keep up in games. Sometimes, the secondaries will be too fast or cover too tightly for the wide receivers to be effective. In that case, the Nebraska Football quarterbacks will need a security blanket of sorts. Stoll cannot do it all by himself.

Enter Katerian Legrone. A sophomore heading into the 2019 season, he did not have the opportunity to see the field much. His statistics showed it. He caught a pass for eight yards on the year in what you could certainly call an extremely small sample size. To be fair, his lone catch occurred in the game against Bethune-Cookman on October 27. Nebraska Football rolled over the Wildcats by a 45-9 score, and everybody was able to get in on the action. However Legrone enters this spring ball hoping that he will be able to play in more than just mop-up situations.

From the sounds of it, he is in a much better position than where he was last year. Tight ends coach Sean Beckton told the media Monday that Legrone has shown improvement this spring. This certainly bodes well for the player heading into the fall. If anything, that puts him in a good position heading into preseason camp in August. Spring ball, although it may seem like glorified practices, still counts very much in the minds of college football coaches everywhere.

"“He’s lining up a lot quicker,” Beckton said. “He’s understanding what is going on in front of him so he can utilize his natural ability. Last year he was second guessing everything, so the game was so slow for him. Thus far this spring through seven practices, he’s emerged as a guy that if he continues to work and improve on things, he should be in the rotation somewhere helping us.”"

This is certainly a welcome development for both the Nebraska Football program and Legrone himself. If they can add depth to the tight end position without having to either recruit someone or rely on a transfer, that is certainly a great development. Legrone has to focus on continuing to work hard every day. It looks like his hard work is paying off. Whether it be for blocking purposes or receiving purposes, Legrone is working his way into the Nebraska offensive game plan. At the very least, that’s what it sounds like.
